Collias and the Gorges du Gardon

Located at the entrance to the gorge and 8 kilometres upstream from the Pont du Gard, Collias is a pretty tourist village with narrow streets and a relaxed atmosphere. Set amid stunning natural surroundings, the village is the ideal departure point for hikes and canoe trips that take you on a voyage through the splendours of the gorge.

A UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the Gorges du Gardon was hollowed out over the millennia by the river Gardon which flows through the canyon. Explore the Gardois landscape from the water or from the hiking trail, admiring the medieval villages perched on the plateau.

The village boats a number of restaurants, including a Michelin-starred establishment at the recently and beautifully restored Château de Collias, as well as amenities including a bakery and a supermarket. The region itself is renowned for its local produce that visitors can sample at the many colourful markets nearby.

Pont du Gard

The Pont du Gard, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of France’s most popular tourist attractions, sits in the heart of the Gorges du Gardon. This ancient aqueduct is one of the best-preserved Roman remains in the world. Designed to transport water between Uzès and Nîmes, construction on the Pont du Gard began in the 1st century BC. With its unique history and culture, it draws thousands of visitors each year.
